Hi everyone, here is an update from OE on their For the Herd Initiative and where we as an industry are at in terms of very hopefully being included in the first wave of businesses allowed to provisionally open to owners and boarders.
We thank you for your patience through this all of this, and wish that we had more concrete news and dates to share. We are optimistic that we soon will!
What we can tell you is that the horses are well and enjoying the spring weather, shedding season is well underway and the weekly carrot delivery continues so all of the horses and ponies are still being spoiled with treats.
We are little behind our usual schedule, but we are now in the middle of deworming season, please let us know if you would like us to deworm your horse(s) with ivermectin which we are using on the OOF herd, or if you would prefer we use another product. We can order for you or you can drop off at the gate.
It seems that annual vaccinations have been deemed essential, so if your horse is due we recommend getting in touch with your vet to schedule those. We had a group of 6 done today by Mckee Pownall and they were able to do so with virtually no contact, right in the horses stalls.
For many of the horses, this break has not been the worst thing. It used to be common to give horses a couple of months off at the end of the season – we are just doing it backwards! That being said, as we get closer to some sort of normalcy and the prospect of visits, please let us know if you would like us to start lunging or doing a bit of work under saddle with your horse so that they are more ready for you when you get back.
We are working on a plan for distancing/scheduling so that we can roll right into visits as soon as we are allowed. We will update you all on that plan soon.
We miss you and hope you are all staying well.
Linda & Tess
